Trempe Power & Light
Trempe Power & Light was located at the North end of the center aisle served off a branch line that also serves a grain elevator, the Pawlus Roundhouse, the Harvey industrial complex, the Empire Refinery, and the Zion Staging yard. It featured a rotary dumper, conveyors, a power plant, and a large office building for employees. The materials to build it were donated by the estate of the late Dave Trempe, one of our former members and a fan of the activity around our local power plant. It was built and dedicated to his memory. When the layout was dismantled, all the items in the area were carefully preserved, to be used again.
The rotary dumper, fully operational, draws attention. It is powered and operated using a DCC decoder. |
The meticulous detail in the diorama is something to behold and cannot be fully realized in photos. It has to be seen to be truly enjoyed. The parking lot alone took several weeks to fabricate and detail.
The power distribution network stretches down the center aisle. Individual wires strung from pole to pole was time consuming, but very effective in finishing the scene. |
The Trempe Power & Light office building and parking lot, complete with picnic area and handicapped parking is nicely detailed. |
Another look at the area from the south. A B&O passenger train meets an eastbound local freight. Also seen are the high tension lines and working APB signals. |
